The Play It Again Sports model is built around our process of buying, selling and trading quality used and new sports gear and fitness equipment. How big is the industry? Annual sales of sporting goods equipment, fitness equipment and sporting goods footwear reached almost $65 billion in 2015! With new equipment representing over 60% of the sales in our stores, we’re a major player in the new sports gear industry. However, our franchisees have an advantage – they can buy the inventory back from their customers paying them on the spot for their gear, and then sell it at a great margin and recycle it back into the community.
Think about it. The glove you sell today at full retail price is used for a season. The player moves on to the next size and instead of letting the glove sit in the garage or throwing it away they bring it back to your store where you buy it for cash and put it back out on the sales floor. Proper capitalization is critical when starting a small business so, financial approval is the first and most important step in our review process for new franchise candidates. Candidates interested in starting a Play It Again Sports are qualified based on an investment of approximately $350,000. We require at least $105,000 in cash or liquid assets and sufficient equity to secure a loan for the balance of the investment. Once you’ve visited with franchisees and you’re ready to take the next step, you’ll be invited to Discovery Day in Minneapolis. Discovery Day is an opportunity for you to meet the Play It Again Sports team you’ll be working with as an owner. You’ll enjoy meeting experts from Real Estate, Training, Operations, Marketing and more! You’ll also have the opportunity for a one-on-one interview with the Brand Director to get your final questions answered. Discovery Day is also a time for us to ensure opening your own Play It Again Sports store is the best fit for you!
Join the Play It Again Sports Team
After you’re approved following Discovery Day, it’s time to join the team! Once franchise agreements have been sent you’ll want to get scheduled for training and the process toward your grand opening will begin!
