Women’s Resale Store named a ‘Rising Star’ by Entrepreneur Magazine Ranking, Coming in at No. 7

MINNEAPOLIS— Style Encore®, one of the fastest growing women’s clothing franchises in the world, was named No.7 out of 100 in the Entrepreneur magazine’s 2018 Top New Franchises Ranking. This follows the brands debut onEntrepreneur magazine’s prestigious Annual Franchise 500®, which was announced in January of this year.

The list of ‘rising stars’ include top companies that have been franchising for five years or less. The newest stars in franchising are determined by the scores companies received in the Franchise 500, which evaluates more than 150 data points that include costs, size and growth, franchisee support, brand strength and financial stability.

Style Encore has continued to grow in both store count and average unit volume since its start in 2013. While Style Encore is new to the franchising and resale scene, they are supported by resale industry leader Winmark Corporation, the Twin Cities-based parent company of popular resale franchises Plato’s Closet®, Once Upon A Child®, Play It Again Sports® and Music Go Round®.

Winmark Corporation, a publicly held company, was founded in 1988 when it purchased the franchising rights for Play It Again Sports and continued to grow with the acquisition of the franchising rights for Once Upon A Child in 1993, Music Go Round in 1994 and Plato’s Closet in 1998.

Designed by women, for women, Style Encore is Winmark’s newest national resale chain that specializes in clothing and accessories. The fresh, trendy store buys and sells gently used clothing, shoes, handbags, accessories and more. The growing franchise offers women all across the U.S. and Canada top name brands including Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Chico’s, Louis Vuitton and others for up to 90 percent off regular retail prices.

“While many new entrepreneurs are seeing the value of owning their own Style Encore, so are our existing franchisees that own one or multiple Winmark stores. They’ve capitalized on the success of the resale industry overall and have seen a great opportunity to add Style Encore to their portfolio, said Susan Baustian, Brand Director of Style Encore. “The consumer demand, the available markets, proven systems in place and our decades experience in franchising are sure signs that Style Encore will continue to rise.”

Winmark Corporation has been the top player in the $17 billion resale sector for nearly three decades. As of yearend 2017, the company was at 1,211 franchises in operation under its retail brands with 62 coming soon.

“We have solidified a higher standard within the industry by delivering consumers an in-store experience that is unparalleled in the resale space,” said Renae Gaudette, Vice President of Franchising for Winmark. “When franchise prospects and customers walk through the doors of a Style Encore, or any of our resale brands, they see the commitment our franchisees put forth to provide quality gently used merchandise, in a clean and welcoming environment. We are intentional with every detail to debunk the presumptions that resale is stale.”
